Carlot owner charged with driving without license or interlock device, reckless endangerment

31-year-old Brian Powers has been charged with driving on revoked 3rd offense, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and open container after he was caught speeding, passing in a no-passing zone, running a stop sign, and operating a vehicle with no interlock device, police say.

THP Trooper Ware was traveling on Saunderville Road West when he passed two vehicles traveling East. Officer Ware looked in his rearview and saw the maroon truck that passed him pass the sedan in a no-passing zone. The officer turned around and activated his lights and sirens. This was when Officer Ware witnessed the vehicle blow through a stop sign and turn onto Nonaville Road. The vehicle stopped and a white male was seen running from the vehicle. Officer Ware approached the truck and identified the passenger as Channing Ellis. The officer asked her who the driver was to which she responded: “I don’t know.” The tag on the vehicle was a dealer tag from Powers Automotive on Park Avenue. Officer Ware found mail inside the driver-side door which belonged to Brian Powers, the owner of Powers Automotive.

The officer also discovered 4 cans of Coors Light in the vehicle. Through a computer check, the officer discovered Brian had a revoked license, 2 previous charges for driving on revoked dating back to 2014 and 2012, and was supposed to have an interlock device installed on all of his vehicles that he uses. The maroon truck did not have an interlock device installed. Officers pinged Brian’s phone and found that he was still within a mile of the area. They headed to his residence on Caroline Court and Officer Ware ran into Channing again when he arrived. Channing still denied knowing the driver of the vehicle but officers did see pictures throughout the home of her and Brian together. Brian was later taken into custody and transported to booking.

Brian Powers was arrested and charged with driving on revoked 3rd offense, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and open container violation. His bond was set at $3000.00.
