29-year-old Gustavo Castaneda-Lopez was charged with driving under the influence and no driver’s license after a call about a reckless driver led police to find him asleep behind the wheel of his running vehicle.
On September 8th, MJPD Cpl. Drake was dispatched to Lebanon Road for a report of a reckless driver. The officer stated the caller observed Gustavo Castaneda-Lopez swerve into oncoming traffic multiple times. The caller then followed Gustavo to his residence at Midtown Trailer Park Lot 16. Upon arrival, the officer found him was asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle with the engine running.
After making contact with Gustavo, the officer contacted an interpreter to translate for Lopez. At this time, Gustavo admitted to consuming hydrocodone prior to this encounter. According to the affidavit, he was very unsteady on his feet and had difficulty keeping his eyes open. He was also giggling for the majority of the encounter. Due to Gustavo’s level of intoxication, no field sobriety tasks were given. A computer check also revealed he did not have a valid driver’s license.
