Senior citizen assaulted by grown son in an unprovoked attack

33-year-old Matthew Shao was charged with domestic assault after he admitted to police that he hit his 66-year-old father during an argument.

On September 21st, Wilson County Deputy H. Pryor was dispatched to a domestic assault call at 320 Southwinds Drive. On arrival, Deputy Pryor made contact with Steve Shao, who stated that he and his son Matthew Shao got into a verbal argument that escalated when he assaulted him in an unprovoked attack. Steve also stated that his son struck him several times about the face and body with his fists.

Deputy Pryor noted that Steve had a severe red and swollen right eye, lacerations to his right ear, and swollen red to bruising under his right arm. Deputy Pryor interviewed Matthew, who stated that he and his father were arguing and he did assault him. Deputy Pryor determined that Matthew was the primary aggressor and was placed in custody.

Matthew Shao was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He was later released on his own recognizance.
