Cookeville man attempts to enter Voodoo BBQ’s backdoor without consent

feat Johnson James

34-year-old James Johnson was charged with possession of meth, buprenorphine without a prescription, burglary tools, and criminal attempt of burglary when he was seen trying to pry open the back door of Voodoo BBQ with a screwdriver.

On October 27th, Lebanon Police Field Training Officer Huckaby responded to a suspicious person at Voodoo BBQ located at 104 West Main Street. Brandon Grater reported that he witnessed James Johnson crouched down near the backdoor with a pry bar in his pocket. Officer Huckaby arrived and Johnson consented to a search of his person which revealed a flat head screwdriver with tan paint on the tip in his front pocket. The newly painted back door of the business was scratched and had missing paint near the locking mechanism. The report stated that the missing paint matched the paint on the tip of the screwdriver in Johnson’s pocket. Officer Huckaby found a white, unmarked container that contained several white pills, identified as buprenorphine, in his front pocket with no prescription.

Johnson was taken into custody, at which time a black backpack was searched. Huckaby stated in the police report that the backpack had Johnson’s name written on it. It contained numerous screwdrivers, pry bars, a hammer, small prying tools, and pliers. The report also stated that the backpack contained a small clear glass jar as well as a bag with clear baggies containing a clear white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, small digital scales, and a small glass pipe with burnt residue associated with narcotics.

James Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, criminal burglary attempt, possession of burglary tools, simple possession of a schedule III drug, and drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $6,000 bond.
