Heroin snorting driver runs stop sign, blows front tires on spikes, and hits police car

27-year-old Marquelius Cason was charged with aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment, DUI, and evading arrest after running a stop sign, speeding away from police, and snorting heroin while driving.

On October 2nd, Wilson County Deputy Sheriff Hackett attempted to stop a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign located at Demond Street and Blue Bird Road in Lebanon. The vehicle sped off and was traveling in the wrong lanes and headed down I40 West, changing lanes without care. Mt. Juliet Police Department put out spike strips right outside the Mt. Juliet exit which blew out the front two tires. After the vehicle continued, the officers attempted to box in the vehicle. It struck Wilson County Sheriff Officer Montoya’s patrol car in the right front fender. Once the vehicle escaped the box it traveled off the ramp on I40 towards Old Hickory Boulevard. Marquelius Cason was identified as the driver of the vehicle and spoke to police.

Cason admitted to officers that he had some heroin and that he was snorting heroin while driving. Cason also admitted that he had snorted heroin before he began to drive. Officers found a clear baggie with a pink powder substance believed to be heroin and a set of scales. In Cason’s pocket, a dollar bill with a pink powder substance was found. A computer check showed that Cason’s driver’s license was revoked. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. Cason refused to go to the hospital with Deputy Hackett.

Marquelius Cason was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license, possession of heroin, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, evading arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being jailed in lieu of a $101,500 bond.
