Sweaty man touches and lifts shirts of Kroger’s patrons; charged with public intox

25-year-old William Merrick was charged with public intoxication after lifting the customer’s clothing when he was in Kroger and lifting the front end of an electronic cart with a pregnant woman was operating.

On September 17th, Mt. Juliet K-9 Officer Barth was dispatched to Kroger on 401 South Mt. Juliet Road for an unwanted person call. Officer Barth made contact with William Merrick who was trying to exit the store. Reportedly, Merrick was frantic, unsteady on his feet, pinpoint pupils, rapid speech, and sweating profusely.

Kroger’s management spoke to the officer after Merrick was detained. They said that Merrick lifting a customer’s shirt sleeve, the front of another customer’s shirt. Then, they stated, he picked up the front of an electric wheelchair shopping cart with a pregnant female customer occupying the chair. Merrick was placed into custody for his and the public’s safety.

William Merrick was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was bonded out on a $500 bond.
