Virginia man found with rifle that was stolen 16 years earlier

25-year-old Christopher James was charged with theft of property when he was stopped for speeding and police found a rifle that was stolen in a home burglary back in 2004.

On September 30th, Wilson County Sheriff Deputy Justin Smith stopped Christopher James on Interstate I-40 near mile marker 236 for speeding. Deputy Smith noticed a rifle in plain view on the passenger side seat during questioning James.

James gave consent to Deputy Smith to take the rifle. After a routine computer check in the officer’s system, the rifle was reported stolen on July 1, 2004, from Columbus Ohio in a home burglary.

Christopher James was arrested and charged with theft of property. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
