Man with one shoe chases vehicle in parking lot, charged with DUI

39-year-old William Vaughn was charged with DUI after he was reportedly chasing another vehicle in a Publix parking lot and admitted to having a few drinks prior to driving.

On November 12th, Mt. Juliet Police Officer Brown arrived at Publix on 665 South Mt. Juliet Road in response to a report of a white SUV chasing another vehicle in the parking lot. Upon arrival, Officer Brown made contact with the driver, William Vaughn. When asked for his license, Vaughn handed the officer every card he had except his license.

Officer Brown stated Vaughn admitted to having two beers from a bar at Nissan Stadium and had to be asked several times to exit the vehicle. When he finally got out of his car, the officer noted he wore only one shoe and kept his hand on top of his head. During a pat down, Vaughn refused to relax or put his hands behind his back. According to the affidavit, Vaughn smelled of alcohol and performed poorly on the sobriety tests. Officer Brown also asked him again how many drinks he had and he replied with “more than I should have.”

Mike Morin was arrested and charged with DUI. He was later released on his own recognizance.
