On November 18th, Mt. Juliet Police Officer Hoppe arrived at Belk, on 401 South Mt. Juliet Road, in response to a theft call. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with Steven Hawkins and Ashlynne Tatum. A patdown of Hawkins revealed a folded piece of paper containing heroin laced with Fentanyl in his wallet and three straws in his pocket, which Hawkins admitted to snorting heroin through.

When Officer Hoppe searched Tatum, a straw with heroin residue was found inside her jacket, and a folded piece of yellow paper with methamphetamine was inside her purse. The police stated a piece of paper with heroin was in her wallet, which Tatum confirmed was heroin laced with Fentanyl. There was also a dollar bill containing cocaine located in her wallet.

Two other individuals, Jeremy Foster and Chasidie Hart, exited the store and made it to their vehicle before police arrival. When asked if there were any drugs in the car, they stated there was drug paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle revealed a backpack containing marijuana, methamphetamine, and a glass pipe. None of the individuals claimed the backpack nor the contents found inside.
