Man skip-scans $130.40 worth of merchandise from Walmart

40-year-old Brian Hedgecoth was charged with theft of merchandise after he was caught covering barcodes as he scanned them and did not pay for all of the merchandise he had in his possession.

On December 5th, Lebanon Police Officer Robertson responded to a theft call at Walmart, located at 615 South Cumberland Street. Upon arrival, the officer was informed that Brian Hedgecoth entered the store and stole merchandise.

It was reported that he engaged in skip-scanning, where he placed his hand over the barcode and went through the motions of scanning, but he did not actually scan anything. The items were worth $130.40, and it was also revealed there were outstanding warrants for Hedgecoth.

Brian Hedgecoth was arrested and charged with theft of merchandise. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
