MJPD makes DUI of marijuana arrest

MT. JULIET, TN – A single vehicle accident in the area of Adams Lane & Crossings Circle resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Derek Talley for driving under the influence of marijuana.

Mt. Juliet Police Officer Stogner was dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle accident, which turned out to be a vehicle located in a ditch. Contact was made with the driver, Derek J. Talley, who admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day, when asked. An arrest warrant states that the officer observed Tally to have red, watery eyes, along with slurred speech and the odor of marijuana coming from his person.

Field sobriety tests were conducted, and Talley reportedly showed signs of impairment on all three tasks. A search incident to arrest resulted in a plastic baggy containing marijuana in his right pocket.

Derek Tally was charged with driving under the influence and simple possession. He posted a $1,500 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court in May. Tally also has an open theft of merchandise case from 2018.
