44-year-old Daniel Stephens was charged with driving under the influence and possession of cocaine and marijuana after he hit a guard rail and swerved on Benders Ferry Road before being pulled over and police found the drugs in his pickup truck.
On June 16th, MJPD Officer Neal interviewed a witness who said that a white 4-door Dodge pickup truck hit a guard rail and was swerving all over Benders Ferry and Lebanon Road. The witness also told Officer Neal that the truck was at a gas station. Officer Neal found the defendant, Daniel Stephens, at the gas station digging through his toolbox in the back of his truck that matched the damage and description from the witness’s account.
According to the report, Stephens had watery red eyes, slowed and slurred speech, as well as being unsteady on his feet. When he was asked for identification, he walked around to the driver door that was already open which emitted a smell of burnt marijuana. A marijuana cigar and a baggy of what was speculated to be cocaine were visible in the floorboard of the truck. After Stephens failed all the field sobriety tests, he was placed into custody and gave consent for a blood test.
Daniel Stephens was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and possession of cocaine and marijuana. His bond was set at $2,000.
