Woman trashes home during supervised visit, attacks grandmother, and kidnaps son

29-year-old Erika Barksdale was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and vandalism after she started trashing her son’s grandmother’s house during a supervised visitation, attacked her son’s grandmother, and left with the child without permission.

On January 22nd, officers responded to a child custody issue on North Cumberland Street. When Officer Thompson arrived at the residence, Barbara Lyons stated that Erika came there for a supervised visit with her son. Barbara’s son Ramond Lyons has full custody of their 4-month old child. Barbara continued to state that she heard noises during the night and found Erika throwing things around the residence, damaging windows, furniture, and other property.

Barbara confronted Erika, and Erika then approached her in a threatening manner. Barbara then grabbed a knife and cut her. Erika then grabbed her son and left. Barbara went outside to follow them and Erika hit her with a broom handle and knocked her to the ground and began punching and kicking her. Erika then left the area without permission, as she does not have custody of her son. Erika Barksdale was arrested and charged with Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, and Vandalism-Less than $1,000. Her bond was set at $40,000.
