Shooting at Plaza Inn: drug deal gone wrong for duo

21-year-old Demarcus Carey was charged with aggravated assault, possession of cocaine, reckless endangerment, criminal simulation, and possession of a firearm during a felony. 20-year-old Amari Kelton was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during a felony after an officer heard arguing and gunfire at the Plaza 231 Inn that involved them, four juveniles, and drugs.

On May 18th, Officer Travis Rourke overheard arguing and gunfire while parked in the parking lot of the First Church of the Nazarene. Upon entry into Plaza Inn, Rourke was directed to a silver car. Rourke’s investigation uncovered that Demarcus Carey, Amari Kelton, and four juveniles came to the Inn together to visit Ginny Foster.

Once arriving at Foster’s room, an argument arose between “AK” and Ms. Foster. The altercation came to a tipping point when, during the argument about drugs between himself and Foster, Kelton shouted to Carey to “get the heat.” Initially, Carey pointed the weapon but Kelton secured it, pointed it at Foster’s head, and then fired it at the ground.

After Carey was brought to custody, the deputies discovered four fake 20 dollar bills in his wallet. In one of the four, the deputy found a powdery substance inside the bill believed to be cocaine.

Demarcus Carey was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of cocaine, reckless endangerment, criminal simulation, and possession of a firearm during a felony. His bond was set at $4,500. Amari Kelton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during a felony. His bond was set at $3,000.
