Nashville woman attacks Academy Sports employee following presumed shoplifting

26-year-old Asia Crawley was charged with assault and disorderly conduct after attacking an Academy Sports employee that approached her while she was attempting to conceal merchandise and when she tried to escape, she knocked several items off the shelf, per report.

On July 8th, Officer Crawford was dispatched to the Academy Sports store located on 549 Pleasant Grove Rd regarding a reported shoplifter. Upon arrival, Crawford made contact with Loren Shelby, who informed law enforcement that she had attempted to provide customer service to a woman who was concealing merchandise.

According to the affidavit, the woman responded to the associate’s attempted assistance by pulling her shirt over the head of Shelby. The woman was then escorted out of the business, but initiated in disorderly behavior on the way out by knocking merchandise off of the shelves. Officers proceeded to observe video surveillance of the incident and were able to identify the woman as Asia Crawley.

Asia Crawley was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Her bond was set at $2,000.
