Unhoused man threatens to shoot woman’s boyfriend with BB pistol

55-year-old Charles Pope was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, tampering with evidence, and vandalism after walking into a woman’s apartment without permission and threatening to shoot her boyfriend.

On October 22nd, Lebanon Police Officer Dee Reynolds received an assault occurrence at 110 Cedarwood, Charles Layhew stated Charles Pope entered his girlfriend’s apartment without permission.

When Layhew walked him outside Pope threatened to shoot him. Layhew went back into the apartment and walked to the second-floor balcony. Then Pope started pointing a handgun at Layhew, causing him to fear bodily harm. Once detained, Officer Reynolds found a set of brass knuckles and a BB pistol in his vehicle. When it was time to conduct a DNA swab for booking, Pope bit and spit the swab out and said he wasn’t doing a DNA swab. The DNA kit was valued at $50.00.

Charles Pope was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, tampering with evidence, and vandalism. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $7,000 bond.
