Lebanon homeless man strangles ex-girlfriend and steals her phone

37-year-old William Poindexter was charged with domestic assault and theft of property after he borrowed his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone and then grabbed her by the throat after she saw him scrolling through her messages.

On March 27th, LPD Officer Hulse responded to a domestic call at 1712 Red Clay Drive and spoke to the victim, Ashley Gibbs. She told Officer Hulse that she had been letting the defendant, her ex-boyfriend, William Poindexter, come over every morning for the last two weeks to use her phone to try and get him into rehab. That day she noticed him scrolling through her messages and asked for her phone back.

Poindexter refused to give it back to her and then grabbed her by the throat and placed his hand over her mouth when she tried to turn away and leave, per report. He told her that he would not let her go until she calmed down. Gibbs stated when he let go, she then grabbed their child and ran to their neighbors to call 911. The police valued the cell phone at $500 and saw visible signs of assault on Gibbs’ neck.

William Poindexter was arrested and charged with domestic assault and theft of property. His bond was set at $1,000.
