Lebanon man found with heroin in his underwear after being charged with DUI

22-year-old Tanner Roberts was charged with driving under the influence, possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license when an off duty cop conducted a traffic stop and he admitted to smoking marijuana and taking kratom before he started driving.

On May 12th, Officer Bandy arrived at a possible DUI and made contact with off duty officer Gilley who conducted a traffic stop at 2500 block of Carthage Highway. Gilley told Officer Brandy that he observed the defendant, Tanner Roberts, swerving in and out of lanes and crossing over the middle lane four times.

He stated that he conducted the traffic stop before Officer Bandy showed up out of fear of Roberts or someone else’s safety. Roberts smelled of marijuana and had slurred speech while unsteady on his feet, per report. When officers asked him if he consumed any illegal substances, Roberts admitted to smoking weed and taking kratom. He performed poorly on all tasks that the police administered during a field sobriety test, the officers stated.

Police arrested him and when his car was in booking it was searched to find a grinder, marijuana, and a bag of kratom. Corrections Officer Tomlinson searched Roberts and found what appeared to be heroin wrapped in cellophane hidden in his underwear. His license was suspended on January 5th, 2019 for failure to appear in court.

Tanner Roberts was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license. His bond was set at $3,500.
