Intoxicated passenger grabs steering wheel causing accident on interstate

47-year-old Sammuel Osborne was charged with reckless endangerment and domestic assault after he grabbed the steering wheel while his wife was driving down the interstate, causing them to crash into a rock embankment.

On May 31st, deputies arrived at the I-840 mile marker 67 to a motor vehicle accident where they found defendant, Sammuel Osborne, as a passenger and his wife Carla Osborne who was driving. Sammuel was intoxicated while he began a domestic dispute with Carla before he decided to grab the steering wheel and pull them into a rock embankment.

There was a major amount of damage to the vehicle which caused Carla to be fearful for her life and could have endangered other motorists. Police described Sammuel to smell of alcohol and he was wearing an ankle monitor from a court case in Rutherford County forbidding him to consume alcohol.

Sammuel Osborne was arrested and charged with domestic assault and reckless endangerment. He was later released on his own recognizance.
