18-year-old Gerardo Ayala was charged with underage consumption of alcohol and driving without a license after an officer noticed the car he was driving drift into the officer’s lane.
On July 12th Detective Justin Sandefur was driving when he observed a vehicle drift into his lane. Detective Sandefur pulled the vehicle over and questioned the driver, Gerardo Ayala. The officer recognized the smell of alcohol on Gerardo’s breath and on his clothing and decided to perform a field sobriety test.
Ayala was able to pass the field sobriety test. However, after performing a search in the police database, Det. Sandefur discovered that Ayala did not have a license and that he was only 18-years-old. Ayala admitted to having consumed four beers prior to the stop and was taken into custody.
