53-year-old Jason Smith was charged with driving under the influence and violating the implied consent law after officers found him passed out behind the wheel of his running vehicle that was parked in a stranger’s driveway.
On July 24th, Corporal Chris Brandenburg received a call that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the driveway of 6556 Carthage Highway in Lebanon. The officer found Jason Smith in the driver seat unconscious with the headlights on and the motor running. It was extremely difficult to wake Smith up, but once he was awake the officer noticed the heavy smell of alcohol on his breath and person, his eyes were red and glassy, and his speech was heavily slurred.
According to the affidavit, when Smith exited the vehicle he was so unsteady that he had to lean on the car in order to keep his balance. Smith admitted that he had consumed five or six beers. When he was asked to take a field sobriety test, he refused to comply. The officer then explained that he would be asked to provide a blood sample, but he adamantly refused.
Jason Smith was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and violating the implied consent law. He was later released on his own recognizance.
