24-year-old Damian Sanchez was charged with aggravated assault and interference with emergency calls after he took his child’s mother’s phone, threw it in the toilet when she tried calling 911, and then started strangling her.
On August 16th, Officer Nicholson was dispatched to 205 S. Eastgate Court to a domestic call. Upon arrival, contact was made with Kya Short who stated she was involved in an argument with the father of her child, Damian Sanchez, because she told him she wanted to go back to Oregon and not be with him anymore. Damian then refused to give the baby back so she could leave.
Damian calmed down and Kya then got the baby. He tried to interfere with her leaving, so she tried to use her cell phone to call 911. He then took the phone and threw it in the toilet so she could not call. Kya then attempted to leave when he grabbed her around the neck and began strangling her. Kya had numerous scratch marks on her neck from the assault. Damian left on foot prior to officers’ arrival.
Damian Sanchez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and interference with emergency calls. His bond was set at $10,000.
