Nine DUI’s and counting: Heavily intoxicated man leaves the scene of an accident

37-year-old Terry Mooningham was charged with DUI, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault, failure to give notice on accident, leaving the scene, and driving on revoked after he was involved in a crash, left the scene on foot, and was found by a K9 hiding in the woods.

On August 4th, Officer Seale was dispatched to a vehicle accident at 8565 Stewarts Ferry Pike. Upon arrival, the officer stated that a BOLO on the vehicle was out from Rutherford County where an altercation had taken place. Officer spoke with Martha Jewell, who was the passenger, and stated she and Terry Mooningham had been drinking. Jewell admitted to having drink one 6oz bottle of Fireball. Terry was driving and when going to turn in a driveway, Jewell asked him not to turn because a vehicle traveling toward them. Upon turning in front of the vehicle a crash was caused. Jewell stated that Terry then left the scene on foot.

Officer Harvey and a K9 was deployed and tracked the scent to Terry hiding in the woods. Officer stated that Terry had a strong smell of alcohol coming from his breath and person and admitted to having drunk two 6 oz bottles of Fireball and admitted to having used heroin the day before. Officer gave field sobriety task to Terry to which he showed signs of impairment on all. As an officer was placing Terry into the patrol car, Terry spits on the officer and inside of the patrol car several times. A computer check showed that Terry had nine priors DUI’s.

Terry Mooningham was charged with DUI, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault, failure to give notice on accident, leaving the scene, and driving on revoked. His bond was set at $18,000.
