Impaired driver admitted to drinking whiskey and Smirnoff at traffic stop

27-year-old Colter Nelson was charged with driving under the influence after the deputy saw open, cold Smirnoff bottles as well as an empty bottle of whiskey inside his vehicle.

On October 14th, Wilson County Sheriff’s Deputy Warren responded to Carthage Highway to a possible impaired driver. A traffic stop was made and the driver was identified as Colter Nelson. Deputy Warren noted that lying in plain sight was an empty whiskey bottle and three open Smirnoff bottles that were still cold to touch. Nelson admitted to the deputy that he had been drinking.

A field sobriety test was administered and resulted in signs of impairment on all. Nelson consented to a blood draw. Deputy Warren did a computer check that showed Nelson had a previous driving under impairment on July 19th of 2016 in Murray County.

Colter Nelson was arrested and charged with second-offense DUI. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
