Unsteady man admits to drinking before driving #DUI

WILSON COUNTY, TN — 37-year-old Mark Lewis Wilkins, Jr. was charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license after conducting a traffic stop due to running his plates when he then admitted to drinking before driving.

On September 26th, Mt. Juliet Police Officer Myers spotted a vehicle on Adams Lane with a suspended driver’s license. After conducting a traffic stop, the driver was identified as Mark Wilkins, Jr. Officer Myers noticed the smell of alcohol on Wilkins’ breath as well as his slurred speech.

Wilkins admitted to drinking prior to driving and Officer Myers advised him to step out of the vehicle then noticed Wilkins was unsteady on his feet. Officer Myers then conducted several sobriety tests to which Wilkins performed poorly on all of them. Further investigation revealed Wilkins to be driving with a suspended license. He was convicted for driving on a suspended license four times in the last 18 years.

Mark Wilkins Jr. was arrested and charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license. He was released on a $1,500 bond.
