Driver charged after having “two Twisted Teas;” violates court orders about drinking

49-year-old Gregory Slate was charged with driving under the influence after he admitted he consumed two Twisted Teas at Jimmy’s Bar and Grill prior to driving.

On November 2nd, Watertown Police Officer Nicholas Deck stopped a driver, Gregory Slate, on Sparta Pike for a light law and registration violation. Officer Deck reported that Slate had a strong odor associated with an alcoholic beverage on and about his person with watery, red eyes. Slate stated that he had consumed two Twisted Teas at Jimmy’s Bar and Grill, located at 1310 Sparta Pike, prior to driving. According to Officer Deck’s report, he offered Slate field sobriety tests. Slate was unsteady on his feet when he exited his vehicle.

Officer Deck stated that Slate had great difficulty following the instructions of the field tests and showed clues of impairment. A police computer check showed that Slate was charged on 06-10-2020 with a domestic assault. Slate signed conditions stating that he would not consume or possess alcohol or controlled substances.

Gregory Slate was arrested and charged with his first offense of driving under the influence, and violation of conditions of release. He was later released on his own recognizance.
