When contact was made with Joy, she stated that James said he “could not live like this anymore” and asked her “if she wanted to die.” He then proceeded to put a pillow over her face to smother her. She then hit him to get him off of her. James told police that he asked Joy if she wanted to die and then threw a pillow at her. He was determined as the primary aggressor and was taken into custody.

James Mahoney was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was later released on his own recognizance.
