46-year-old Mikel Edwards is charged with domestic assault. His girlfriend says he became upset a black man was bunked above them in a local halfway house and took his anger out on her, punching her multiple times in her face, bruising both eyes.

| On 08/11/2021 I was dispatched to 323 North Cumberland for a report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, I made contact with the victim (Mari Beilfuss). The victim advised that she lives at 221 Burdock Street in a halfway house with the defendant (Mike Edwards) who is her boyfriend. The victim advised that at approximately 2100 hours on 08/11/2021 the defendant became upset that a black man was assigned the bunk above theirs in the halfway house. The victim stated that the defendant then turned his anger towards her. The defendant became upset at the victim for spending the $100 dollars she was given. The victim advised that the defendant began to strike her in the head and neck area with a closed fist. The victim had severe swelling to her face. The victim also bad bruising to both eyes. The victim had scratches on both of her forearms. Officers then went to 221 Burdock to attempt to locate the defendant. The defendant was asleep in a van at 218 Burdock, The defendant exited the van and spoke with officers. The defendant advised that the victim came to bed drunk, After entering the bed, she kicked him in the back and bit his shoulder. I did not observe any bruising from a kick or bite marks on the defendant. The defendant stated that he never struck the victim, he only pushed her off him. The defendant stated that at the time he went outside to sleep in the van. While at 221 Burdock, the house manager exited and briefly spoke with officers, He would only say that the defendant was kicked out of the halfway house because they do not allow men to hit women. At this time the defendant was taken into custody. He is being charged with TCA 39-13-111 (Domestic Assault). The incident did occur in Wilson County Tennessee. |
