Mt. Juliet man drives through ditch, admits to drinking and caught with Xanax

29-year-old Brent Morris was charged with possession of Xanax and driving under the influence after driving through a ditch and onto a driveway of a business in Lebanon.

On May 30th, Officer Lanius was given a notice from a citizen regarding a potentially impaired driver on Highway 109. After receiving a description of the vehicle, Lanius found a vehicle matching the previous description. According to the affidavit, the vehicle proceeded to drive off of the road, through a ditch and into the driveway of a business located on 5 Wonder Way. Lanius then met the driver of the vehicle who was exiting via the driver’s side when the two made contact.

The driver, who was later identified as Brent Morris, appeared unstable on his feet and had an odor on and about his person that smelt similar to the scent of alcohol. Further questioning revealed that Morris had been drinking throughout the day.

Three field sobriety tests were then administered by Lanius, to which Morris revealed signs of inebriation throughout. Investigation of the vehicle led to the discovery of multiple beer containers littered inside. Upon search of his person during the booking process, Corrections Officer Steve Everette found one and a half pills in his wallet. The pills were identified as alprazolam, also known as Xanax.

Brent Morris was arrested and charged with possession of Xanax and driving under the influence. He was later released on his own recognizance.
