Pregnant woman spins into median of I-40 while on Methadone and Xanax

31-year-old Jean Carrion-Velazquez was charged with driving under the influence, failure to appear, and driving on a revoked license after spinning out in the median of Interstate 40.

On August 16th, Trooper DeWunya Topps watched a vehicle spin out into the median then come back onto Interstate 40. They initiated a traffic stop and found Jean Carrion-Velazquez who seemed to be under the influence of a narcotic, appeared very lethargic and was having difficulty standing. Trooper Topps stated her pupils were very small and constricted.

Carrion-Velazquez said she had taken Methadone that morning and two Xanax pills. She also admitted to being pregnant. Trooper Topps conducted several standardized field sobriety tests, which showed Carrion-Velazquez was impaired. Carrion-Velazquez has been convicted of a DUI in April of 2019 and has a revoked license for an unsatisfied judgment in April of 2011.

Jean Carrion-Velazquez was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to appear, and driving on a revoked license. Her bond was set at $3,500.
