Man charged after being pulled over in stolen vehicle

43-year-old Richard Mims was charged with theft of property, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia after he was found with pipes and a gun in a stolen vehicle, per report.

On November 11th, Mt. Juliet Police Officer Fulton responded to an alert of a stolen vehicle in the area of Mt. Juliet Road and Pleasant Grove Road. He advised that he spotted and followed the car onto I-40. He stated he pulled over the driver, Richard Mims, and asked that he and his passenger exit the vehicle.

Officer Fulton reported the smell of marijuana coming from both occupants and a search of the vehicle revealed a Glock 43 9mm pistol and a loaded magazine in the glove compartment. Mims claimed that the proof of purchase and the title of the car were in the glove compartment but did not take ownership of the gun. The officer also discovered a glass pipe wrapped in a washcloth on the driver’s seat and another pipe in the center console that had burnt marijuana residue in it.

The vehicle was confirmed stolen from Davidson County, TN on November 9th. It was additionally noted that Mims was a convicted felon for selling drugs in Alabama. Correctional Deputy Huggins reported a plastic bag of methamphetamine was found on Mims during a search in the booking area of the Wilson County Jail.

Richard Mims was arrested and charged with theft of property, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently jailed in lieu of an $8,000 bond.
