Man naps at traffic light for 20 minutes with marijuana in his car

23-year-old James Kimbrell was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was reported asleep at a traffic light for 20 minutes and admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking weed before driving.

On November 28th, Mt. Juliet Police Officer Christopher Barth responded to a report of a vehicle that was sitting idle for about 20 minutes at a traffic light on North Mt. Juliet Road and I-40. Per the report, Officer Barth stated that James Kimbrell was asleep behind the wheel and proceeded to knock on the window to wake him up.

When Kimbrell woke up, he allowed the vehicle to roll forward, and Officer Barth had to put the vehicle in park. The police said they could smell marijuana coming from his car. As he exited the vehicle, he exhibited signs of intoxication, such as large pupils, unsteady feet, and extremely slurred speech. He admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking weed prior to driving. A search of the vehicle revealed a blue, plastic vial and a gold grinder in the door, both containing marijuana.

James Kimbrell was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
