Man charged with assault of girlfriend because her “son is a bum”

56-year-old Ross Mark Hinchey is charged with domestic assault after allegedly hitting his girlfriend in the head with a radio as she made popcorn. The victim sustained injuries, and during an interview, Ross told Watertown police “her son is a bum”.

Watertown Police Officer Chris Tubbs was dispatched to a domestic call on Cornwell Avenue on September 2nd and made contact with the victim, who was sitting on the front porch holding her head upon his arrival. Officer Tubbs noted a large knot on the victim’s head behind her right ear.

The victim stated her boyfriend, 56-year-old Ross Mark Hinchey, was intoxicated and upset, and as she was in the kitchen finishing popping popcorn, he hit her in the head ‘hard’ with a portable radio. She asked her son to call the police. During an interview, Hinchey told police that his girlfriend’s son “is a bum”. Hinchley was booked on the charge of aggravated domestic assault, and released on his own recognizance after the state-mandated 12-hour hold. During a hearing this week, Hinchey was released from several bond conditions which would have prevented him from being around his girlfriend, and his case is continued until March.
