Cold to the touch cocktail found in swerving driver’s vehicle during traffic stop #DUI

40-year-old Helen Schmidt was charged with her third DUI after driving on the other side of the road then failing standard field sobriety tests.

On October 25th, Wilson County Sheriff’s Deputy Darbonne arrived on Sparta Pike in response to a citizen complaint of a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival, Deputy Darbonne witnessed the vehicle cross the center line twice and then proceeded to stop the vehicle, identifying the driver as Helen Schmidt.

An open can of an alcoholic cocktail was found in the vehicle, still cold and partially empty. When asked to complete the sobriety tests, Schmidt failed to perform on all of them and submitted to a blood test.

Helen Schmidt was arrested and charged with DUI third offense. She was later released on a $2,500 bond.
